Tips for Choosing A Corset

Although corsets have been in the market for quite some time, many people are still taken by its ability to make them look sexier and edgier in a matter of minutes. However, not all corsets that cross your path are a good value for your money. Here are some tips to keep in mind so you won’t get ripped off when you go and buy your own corset:

  1. Know the difference between a corset and a bodice. Oftentimes, people get confused between the two. A bodice usually features a plastic boning while a true corset would most probably have a steel boning.
  2. Go for a corset with a strong fabric even if you would not be tight lacing. This would ensure that your corset would not just rip at the most importune moments.
  3. Choose a corset that has steel busk for fastening the front. This is the only material that is strong enough to hold the corset together.
  4. Lastly, make sure that you choose a corset about 4 sizes smaller than your waistline. Keep in mind that corsets are measured based on waist line and not dress size. It is also a good idea to try on a corset before buying them to be sure that you can move comfortably around while wearing them.

Basic Tips on Wearing Corsets

If there’s one thing that has not changed over the years when it comes to sexy lingerie, it is the corset. Although many of the corsets today are not really meant to have a lasting effect on the shape of the wearer’s body, they still have the lacing and/ or boning feature of conventional corsets.

Most people get confused between corsets and bustiers. The former, actually, is usually made of sturdy material and does not bow out.

If you are thinking of getting a corset, here are some pointers that you might want to keep in mind:

  • Since tightly laced corsets would not allow you to bend over easily, you might want to go for knee high stockings rather than pantyhoses
  • If you are going to wear something underneath your corset, make sure that it is made from light material. Otherwise, you might have difficulty breathing.
  • Go for fuller skirts if you want to create an hourglass figure over straight skirts. The latter tends to create a slimming effect.
  • Check the insides of a corset. There should be smooth finishing as any sloppy work can get imprinted on your skin.
  • Make sure that you try on a corset before you buy it. Bring along a friend with you to help you lace up the corset. This would give you an idea whether to buy a particular corset or not.

So, ready to have your own corset?

Beautiful at 50

Most women see growing old as something that should be avoided. They usually equate growing old and turning 50 with wrinkles and unshapely bodies. In reality, turning 50 might just be the right time to feel better about yourself! So, how can you do this?

  • When your 50, your body is not as flexible as it used to be. Therefore, you should get serious about eating healthy. Eating healthy is one good way of keeping your skin smooth and supple. Focus more on foods that are rich in Vitamin C, zinc and Vitamin B, and avoid those that are rich in fat and oil.

  • If you want to fit in a sexy lingerie, one of the things that you have to do is exercise regularly and keep yourself active. Exercise need not be an excruciating workout. At your age, you can just opt to do brisk walking or jogging. If you want a more challenging activity, you can go for dancing as well as team sports.
  • Since 50 means dry skin and wrinkles, invest on some good moisturizer to keep your skin taut and supple. Keep in mind that bustier and other sexy wear do not mix with dry, cracked skin.
  • Just because you’re 50 doesn’t mean that you can get away with unkempt hair. Since your hair will tend to be brittle, make sure that you use the right shampoo. Have it cut and styled in such a way that it highlights your best features.
  • Laugh! Nothing can be more refreshing than seeing someone laugh. It also makes you look younger. This goes with having a positive outlook in line. At 50, you have every right to see life in a positive way.
  • Lastly, make sure that you keep your mind active. It might be hard to teach an old dog new tricks but it’s not impossible. Learn something new each day. This would help keep your mind in good shape.

Fitting A Corset

The corset might have been around for quite sometime but they sure haven’t gone out of style. Today, corsets can be worn under a formal dress as well as on top of your favorite shirt. However, you need to keep the following things in mind if you would like to find just the right corset:

  • Your first move would be to take the measure of your natural waistline. This is the point where your abdomen dips inward and is found somewhere below your breasts.
  • With your arms parallel to the floor, have someone measure around the biggest part of your bust area. Write this down.
  • Measure the part of your hips where you would like your corset to end. The trick here is to sit down to ensure that you can still comfortably move without moving the tape measure.
  • Once you have a corset made based on your measurements, do not be afraid to try it on. Have a friend lace you up with your hands raised up. You should aim for a standard reduction of about 3 to 4 inches from your waist. Anything more than that is not recommended.
  • If it is your first time to wear a corset, make sure that you loosen them up a little bit to ensure that you can breathe easily. You might also want to go for corsets made from softer clothes such as velvet.

So, till next time, flaunt on!

Sexy History

Books keep me busy most of the time. Totally unexpected of me, I know, but I really love reading especially about those English women and noblemen. ..which led me to wonder, how did those people come up with the idea of a corset?

A few researches here and there led me to the history of corset. The idea of corsets originally came from the ancient Greeks. French ladies during the 13th and 14th century also wore some type of corset that accentuated their waistline and pushed up their breasts giving them a fuller look.

The early corsets were made of wood and whale bone and were very, very uncomfortable to wear. The French Revolution almost made the corset a forgotten part of history (corset being associated with aristocracy) but the 19th century saw its spirited comeback.

Today, corsets are worn for a variety of reasons – to add shape, to look sexier, to make a fashion statement (as in the case of people who go for the Gothic look). They are also not as uncomfortable as they used to be.

If you would like to try one, you can start with lace bustier with under wire cups. Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can move on to those made of faux leather.
